In an earlier interview, state secretary Alexandros Galiatatos from the Transport Ministry said freight forwarders have a bright future ahead. At least in the rail sector, freight forwarders think this statement has a different meaning - a few survivors will emerge in better positions after most of the rest will soon be killed. Forwarders’ representatives complain that it is not the fierce competition or the European integration that troubles them, but the bad practice of state companies.
Construction of the Bucharest-Brasov highway was officially launched on March 15th. The estimated value of the project is 1.8 billion euros (up from 1.6 billion), with a deadline set for 2012. The first section of the construction links Ploiesti to Moara Vlasiei.
The construction will be 173.3 kilometers long, in five sections, will have two lanes per direction, for a total width of 23.5 meters in difficult regions and 26 meters in plain areas. [ continuare ]

The Programme’s objective is to reduce road congestion and to improve the environmental performance of the freight transport system within the Community and to enhance intermodality, thereby contributing to an efficient and sustainable transport system. Romania is the first and only EU member state to enforce a directors and officers insurance (D&o). A law passed last year requires joint stock companies to buy insurance policies for CEos’ and administrators’ liability. This type of insurance is meant to protect shareholders and even employees from bad management effects. It is an expensive policy, the costs being in the range of 1,000 to 5,000 Euros. Because of the steep price, EU authorities don’t even think about enforcing an insurance of this kind. Still, Romanian companies may also skip this insurance, since the law says it is mandatory, but doesn’t specify any penalty for those who don’t contract a policy of this kind. [ continuare ]
Starting March 21st, 200 companies transformed Romexpo exhibition center into a huge construction yard. There were no repairs or construction works, but the first edition of Construct Expo Utilaje. Companies from Romania, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Czech Republic and Turkey showed construction machines, mobile equipments, vehicles and tools, the exhibition summing up 40,000 sqm. Ajuns la cea de-a IX-a editie, targul auto organizat in intervalul 21-25 martie la Cluj de Expo Transilvania a reunit participanti pe mai multe sectiuni: autoturisme, autoutilitare, camioane, dar si un salon de tuning. Oferta cea mai bogata a fost pe segmentul de masini mici, unde lumea s-a invartit mai ales in jurul autovehiculelor 4x4. Camioanele si utilitarele, „exilate” in exteriorul pavilionului, au avut si ghinion de partea lor: vremea rea a tinut vizitatorii numai inauntru. [ continuare ]
