Infrastructure in 2007-2013: the roads have priority
Professor Radu Pencea writes about the Romanian authorities' plans in the transport infrastructure field, concluding that they favor road transport for the next 6 years, in contradiction to the European strategy, which stresses on the rail and ship transport. There are many explanations and justifications to support the option, but there are also involved many major risks of turning aside from the communitarian objectives, if the strategy is implemented on an extended period.   [ continuare ]

Rough sanctions for working times infringement
The Ministry of Transports published last month a draft Government Decision with a view to establish the frame to apply the rules regarding the driving periods, the breaks and the drivers' resting times and the utilization of the tachographs.   [ continuare ]

Romanian airports buy cheap liability policies
Increasing air traffic and the current use of cheap liability policies suggest that insurance companies active in the field are set to make some big money in the future. Bucharest's two airports - Otopeni and Băneasa, are paying for low insurance cover compared to Western Europe's big airports, says Filip Stavrositu, insurance manager at Astra-UNIQA.   [ continuare ]

The CMR consignment note, renewed after 30 years
The general assembly of the International Road Transport Union (IRU) adopted a new model CMR consignment note to further harmonise and simplify international road transport operations and replace the former IRU model CMR consignment note, dating back to 1976. The changes adopted last month acknowledge the progress made in road transport and capitalizes on the 30 years of experience.   [ continuare ]

Team building not bodybuilding
The team building offer has become a widely spread business in Romania: when going to the mountain, on weekends, one can see groups of young people more or less skillful trying to perform all sorts of extreme sports, who then come back to the conference room in order to be informed about what they have just done. The thing is that sometimes instead of being a building and cohesion for the team, the action remains a physical individual exercise, more like bodybuilding than team building.   [ continuare ]

Romanian TTS Group came last in the tender for JRB
Best bidder in the privatization process involving Yugoslav River Shipping (JRB) is the consortium of Tamoza Trading (from Cyprus) and Daxin Petroleum PTE (from Singapore), according to the tender commission. This consortium offered 32,25 million Euros for 69.99% of JRB and an investment programme worth 10 million Euros while accepting unconditionally the minimal social program requirements.

The Arabs want to fuel aircrafts with natural gas
Qatar Airways has launched an ambitious project of re-engining jet aircraft in order to replace kerosene with a synthetic fuel derived from natural gas. The Arabian airline has attracted leading companies in the aviation and oil industries as partners in the project - Shell and Qatar Gas, Rolls Royce and Airbus respectively. The assignees have established an agreement at the Dubai Airshow, last month, engaging to test a kerosene mix obtained of natural gas and Jet A/A1 classical fuel, the next year.

5,3 billion Euros for the Union, 0,2 million for Romania
The European Commission earmarked Romania only 0,2 million Euros out of a total 5,3 billion Euros for the infrastructure projects integrated in the trans-European transport network (Trans-European Network - Transport). The budget's distribution sketch was presented on November 22nd at the European Parliament, and Jacques Barrot, the European Commissioner in charge of transport explained the motivations, which engendered the projects' selection.   [ continuare ]

Hard but clean times
The regulating machine in Brussels recently steered on an environmentalist track and looks less able to change its route than an overloaded truck. Brussels turned its guns on road and air transport emissions last month, aiming to make transporters pay for the negative effects they inflict on society.   [ continuare ]

[ continuare ]
