Attractiveness depends to an overwhelming proportion of the company’s financial results: whereas CFR Marfa already registered losses early this year, Minister Radu Berceanu has abandoned the plans of his predecessor, Liberal Ludovic Orban, who had scheduled the sale of the rail operator in 2009.
The Railway Industry Association in Romania thinks the timing for the privatization is not the most appropriate, given the poor company’s financial results, compared to the achievements in 2007. Even more, the previous price – 1 billion Euros - might result too high to be true, in the current context, when even the world freight rail transport is low rated and, most of the times, obtaining some profits is an insuperable matter.
What still remain praiseworthy are the Ministry’s intentions to invest the potential money in the railway companies which will still be in the Ministry’s portfolio.
