5,3 billion Euros for the Union, 0,2 million for Romania

The European Commission earmarked Romania only 0,2 million Euros out of a total 5,3 billion Euros for the infrastructure projects integrated in the trans-European transport network (Trans-European Network - Transport). The budget's distribution sketch was presented on November 22nd at the European Parliament, and Jacques Barrot, the European Commissioner in charge of transport explained the motivations, which engendered the projects' selection.
”We preferred to concentrate these funds on a limited amount of important projects, rather than spreading them out among all of them“, explained Jacques Barrot. Unfortunately, Romania didn't receive a mere thousand of the overall budget.
While in the TEN-T multi-annual financing programme Romania is not included, in the 2007 annual programme there are two accepted requests, both referring to the Danube ports: ”D. A. N. U. B. E. - Romanian Danube port infrastructure development“ and ”Study for improving Romanian Danube ports“.
