Without an efficient merchandise flow, there's a risk of chaotic and unprofitable transportation, and this is why huge logistics parks were built in the proximity of important consumption centers. Transporters reacted to this evolution through a specialization process: a new type of company was born, the third-party logistics provider (in short, 3PL), who provides integrated warehousing and transportation services. Logistics centers are new in Romania's landscape and they attract important investments, especially in Bucharest, giving profit-making opportunities to transporters. "Until the '80es, investments in logistics were inappropriate, but in the last decade people figured out that logistics saves a lot of money. We had the guts to invest in this area in Romania, because we saw a trend in the neighboring countries: some 1,000,000 sqm of warehouses were built in Budapest, whereas Bucharest only has 150,000 sqm," said Stefano Albarosa, general manager of Cefin Holding, logistics center developer.
