While general insurance continues to hold a dominant position, with over 80% of under subscribed total gross premiums, the minor share of life insurances has sustained the market growth more. For general insurances, under subscribed premiums reached about one billion euros, but the damage represented half of this amount, registering an increase of 24.14% over the value of same period last year. The largest percentage increase in the amount of damages has been paid by the market share of means of air transport (Class V) - 758.36% up to a 25.15 million U.S. dollars level.
The responsible for this record growth was the accident in which was involved a Boeing 737 during the Tarom flight from Otopeni airport on a route to the Egyptian resort Sharm el- Sheikh, on 30th December 2007. The aircraft’s damaging was considered so serious that in the first quarter of this year, 10 million U.S. dollars was paid for the total damage.
