APDF fights throughput decrease with a new tariff policy

RBT editia nr. 32/Iunie 2009 Articol adaugata la, 01 Iunie 2009 ( RBT )
Afisari: 229

The Danube River Ports Administration (APDF, in Romanian) announced a decrease of 30% in the freight traffic in the 21 ports administrated along the 884 kilometres of the Danube river.

This decline during January-March 2009 compared to first quarter of last year is not as alarming as it is downstream on the Danube, where Danube Maritime Ports Administration (APDM) Galati faces serious problems, repeatedly asking subsidies from the Ministry of Transports and Infrastructure.

Lack of concern shown by APDF management follows some positive results over the past four years, when the turnover of the company increased by 278% and the profit increased with over 3.704%. Since excellent results were used to build up a capital reserve, and early this year there was also a policy to reduce expenses, no risks are foreseen.

The company’s management claims that it will conduct all the investment programs, including upgrading infrastructure in seven Danube ports - Moldova Veche, Drobeta Turnu Severin, Calafat, Giurgiu, Oltenita, Calarasi and Cernavoda.
