Ciprian Placinta, commercial manager of Navigable Canals Administration: The Danube-Bucharest canal has only benefits

RBT editia nr. 20/Iunie 2008 Articol adaugata la, 03 Iunie 2008 ( RBT )
Afisari: 239

The recently announced plan to finish the Danube-Bucharest canal was met with some opposition despite the fact that shipping from Constantza to Bucharest by waterway only is thoroughly less polluting than the overland transport.

We have been talking to Ciprian Placinta, commercial president of the Navigable Canals Administration.

RBT: Why would the investment be desirable?

Ciprian Placinta: There are obvious reasons why we should trigger the project. Firstly, we should think that Bucharest would be a port for both Black Sea and for the Northern Sea, let alone that Bucharest would be connected to the other European capitals along the Danube. Even more, the environmental conditions should be taken into consideration, as the waterway transports are cleaner and its costs are also low. All in all, there are only benefits we are talking about.
