Last month, the Association of Independent Auto Services (ASSAI) notified the country's insurance watchdog CSA on "serious irregularities" in the activity of Romania's largest insurer Allianz-Tiriac Asigurari, which denied all accusations.

ASSAI claims that Allianz-Tiriac Asigurari operated outside its object of activity when it started to buy vehicle change parts in order to sell them to ASSAI members, since buying change parts is not something an insurance company is supposed to do. The Association also accuses Allianz-Tiriac Asigurari of purchasing spare parts at much higher prices than those which could be offered directly by the service units. Furthermore, the insurance company is aid to force customers to carry out vehicle repairs only in certain service units.

In response, Allianz-Tiriac Asigurari has pointed out that ASSAI did not reveal any proof to support its accusations, which leaves them unfounded. The insurance company said all its operations observe the law.
