At its second edition, the meeting aimed to promote the largest port on the eastern borders of EU, in order to attract new cargo flows from Serbia. The Belgrade event particularly offered some spectacular results of the promoting efforts: a 374% growth of Serbian cargoes transiting Constanta. Thus, in the first eight months of this year, despite a difficult economic climate, the transit of cargo through Constanta originating or being destined to Serbia reached 1,5 million tons, up from some 300.000 tons in the same period of last year. Thus, Serbian cargoes now have a share of 18% in the total maritime transit for Constanta. These numbers clearly show that Romania’s main port has become an important hub for Serbian trade.
Beyond the projects presented by the authorities, the event offered an opportunity for presenting significant investments aimed at extending the operating capacity of Constanta, some of them run even by companies in Serbia.
