Cost reducing winglet for Tarom

Innovation is the key to overcoming the crisis and Tarom, Romania’s flag air operator, has its hands on the solution: the winglet. Although 3.000 Boeing aircrafts in the entire world are equipped with such devices, winglets are a novelty for the Romanian air transport industry. The producer, Aviation Partners Boeing started the assemblage on September 1st on the four Boeing 737-700 Tarom airliners.

The winglet device contributes to reducing aircraft fuel consumption by up to 3% and thus reduces polluting emissions by up to 3%. Moreover, the take-off sound pollution is almost 6,5% lower.

The benefits of fitting this aerodynamic appendix are: the cruise speed growth and  fuel consumption reduction, the maximum flight distance increment for the aircraft, with the possibility of setting more remote destinations, 3-4% lower operating costs, reduction of the aircraft’s negative impact on the environment.
