The air field attracted European legislators’ attention by the increasing noxious impact of airline circulation. That is why the European Commission approved a maximum level of the CO2 emissions for all the aircrafts that land on a communitarian airport or that take off on the EU’s territory. Yet, the airlines that need to maintain their routes, without exceeding the maximum polluting emission level, will buy the so-called ”pollution credits“ on the EU Emission Trading Scheme (EU ETS) market. There will be also some exemptions from the carbon certificates transaction, such as:
– Light aircraft (under 5,7 tons);
– Flights with humanitarian mandate from the UN;
– Flights for emergency medical assistance;
– Police, customs and military authorities’ aircrafts;
– Flights performed for the purpose of scientific research;
– Smaller airlines, with low emissions.
While there are some predictions concerning the air tickets’ raise in price, by 2020, Florentina Ivan, Blue Air marketing manager, said that the passengers would not experience some extra-fees, while Tarom representatives say that a correct evaluation of eventual price increases is lacking.
