”The current international crisis will certainly lead to the increase of external financing costs. That is why, the main financing source, namely the European funds, remains the only reliable source for the transport sector. We will have to know how to take the best out of these funds,“ said Eugen Teodorovici, State Secretary in the Ministry of Economy and Finances, urging for more projects to be submitted.
In order to keep the number of the rejected projects low, the authorities promised that they will offer full support to any beneficiary, as Barna Tanczos, State Secretary in the Ministry of Transports explained: “We are trying to deal with any project proposal which reaches the Management Authority inside the Ministry of Transport, so that the final version would easily get the green light from Brussels and would not come up against procedure issues.” The SOP-T establishes priorities, goals and the allocation of funds for development of the transport sector in Romania. The total budget of the SOP-T over the programming period is about 5,7 billion Euros, which represents about 23% of the overall allocated funds for NSRF for Romania over the said period. Out of these, 4,57 billion Euros represent the Community financial support, while national co while national co-financing will amount to about 1,09 billion Euros. The Cohesion Fund and the European Regional Development Fund will provide the Community funding.
