Employees pass through the recession sieve

RBT editia nr. 28/Februarie 2009 Articol adaugata la, 09 Februarie 2009 ( RBT )

In recent months, the crisis has gone hand in hand with mass layoffs. Positive effects on short-term costs are targeted, even if there are predictions of negative consequences on long-term productivity.

From the human resources specialists’ point of view, the negative impact may be prevented or even reduced by taking measures to motivate the employees that are not affected by layoffs.

Organizational cultures studies have shown that in companies where some employees were fired, the remained staff’s commitment decreases compared to those of the employees that were not affected by recession. This attitude is due to the employment insecurity. “If the company is strongly affected by the crisis and employees feel their job in jeopardy, they will be tempted to seek other jobs. Therefore, if indeed suitable, effective measures should be securing employment, which would give confidence that things are still under control and the company has the resources to go through an unfavourable juncture,“ believes Sorin Dumitru, Recruiter the APT Resources and Services.

In order to encourage and help employees to continue work with the same dedication, human resources experts advise companies to initiate stress management programs and job trainings.
