FREIGHT VEHICLES FACE MILDER TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS

RBT editia nr. 24/Octombrie 2008 Articol adaugata la, 10 Octombrie 2008 ( RBT )
Afisari: 232

Romania’s increasing consumption showed itself in the volume of goods carried by road, the number of vehicles involved, and the num- ber of voyages. This was accompanied by increasing numbers of acci- dents and degradation of infrastructure and of the environment.

As a solution to these problems, in 2004, legislators have decided to restrict the movement of goods transport vehicles with a maximum gross mass greater than 7,5 tonnes.

Within the last four years, despite numerous protests, nothing changed, but since the creation of the National Road Council, which speaks for all road transporters, authorities realised they can’t turn their eyes away from the problem any longer. Legislators have gath- ered again and have come to one conclusion: to be gentler, to reduce restrictions.
