Find out why people leave the company

RBT editia nr. 15/Ianuarie 2008 Articol adaugata la, 11 Ianuarie 2008 ( RBT )

An employee’s resignation might be, for the manager, an opportunity to see the problems of the company and what should be improved.

The issue was on the debate list during the last edition of “The Performance Nights”, which brought together 40 HR experts. Organized by Skill Team, the event aimed at analyzing the motivations, objectives and benefits of the so-called ”exit interview“ as an HR instrument.

Practice showed the managers that the ”exit interview“ is rather an informal talk, as the HR expert already knows the employee and, in most cases, already has a hunch about the resignation’s reasons. According to the experts, the talk must follow aspects like: things that the employee appreciated in the company, what would improve its activity and the attitude towards the employees, to whom he would recommend to apply for a job in the company.

As the Skill Team specialists stated, the ”exit interview“ might determine the employees to reconsider their leaving.

The HR experts recommend, apart from talking to the resigning employee, an annual study to measure their satisfaction degree towards the company.

Psychologist Alina Oancea, trainer at Skill Team, said that the proper period of working out an interview is the end of the notice period: ”It is then that the employee feels more relaxed, and therefore, more willing to share the reasons for his leave“.
