RBT editia nr. 19/Mai 2008 Articol adaugata la, 05 Mai 2008 ( RBT )

Road transporters managed last month to mobilize themselves in an unprecedented series of protests shadowed by lack of clear and immediate results. The relatively successful rallies were shadowed by lack of big companies’ names among the protesters. Moreover, heavily congested traffic didn’t force authorities to weaken their position.

On the other hand, efforts in Brusells might be more useful, since transporters consider that they are victims of double taxation through both transparent road tolls and shadow road tolls included in the fuel price.

The real challenge will be to convince not 2.000, but 20.000 drivers to slowly move their trucks on by-pass roads. And there are ones who say that many transporters will not protest because they are close connected to high-ranked officials. Getting them on the streets will be virtually impossible. But if their number is high, then there’s no need for protests. The only thing needed is a clean sweep of the offices in transport related state authorities and institutions.
