After three years in which legislation granting holiday coupons was delayed, the new Minister of Tourism, Elena Udrea, has managed to successfully promote an Emergency Ordinance aimed at this type of coupon.

According to the adopted rules, the services package that may be paid with coupons include accommodation services, catering, transport, and treatment. Since coupons can be used to buy transport services, passenger transporters might just have witnessed the opening of a new market segment for their businesses. ”Opportunities for the development of passenger transport by coach from the introduction of holiday coupons will be small, as the holiday coupons should be financed jointly by employer and employee, and, furthermore, this is only the first year that coupons will be used for holidays“, considers Otilia Dragomir, PR & Marketing Manager in the National Union of Road Hauliers from Romania (UNTRR for short in Romanian).
