Easy as it may seem, to start such a business there is a great need for money. ”Two cars means nothing for a rent a car business“, said Stelian Balan, S&T Car Company administrator, in Bucharest. ”If one wants to have a serious company“, he has to owe a fleet of more than 25 cars, as Balan pointed. Also, the business’ development depends on the region in which is being settled and on the promotion politics and efforts.
With a view to the customer’s profile, most of them are men (70%), wealthy youngsters or Romanian workers with some experience in working abroad.
But lots of risks come with the package, too: ”Last year I had four cars stolen“, said Nicolae Chereches, general manager at the Rodna Trans Company, in Cluj-Napoca. As the risks are so great, some guarantees are being asked on the rent. Most of the companies ask for a certain tax, which is of about 350 Euros.
Generally speaking, the damages are being covered by the vehicles’ insurance. On the other side, lest the driver should take advantage of the car’s capacities and take great care with the car, in case of an accident, he would also pay part of the damages, on a previous contract basis.
The cars for rent are available only to driving license owners for at least 1 year, aged more than 21. For the rent, one needs his driving license, and his passport or ID.
The renting tax does not regularly include the fuel, passing, garage or transhipment taxes during the renting period, nor the insurance for the passengers or the luggage in the car.
