After the warning at the mid October, the port syndicalists have announced that they would not hesitate to go on general strike if they do not have their demands solved; while the minister of Transports replied he could not comply.
The pretext for the strike on October 15th was the adoption of a regulation without taking into account the syndicalists’ requests, although there was a protocol between them and the Ministry. Actually, the syndicalists got former Transports secretary Alexandros Galiatatos’s agreement to organise a monopolist workforce placing agency for the Constantza port. But as Galiatatos left the Ministry, the deal was off.
”I would rather the syndicalists did not threat us with the general strike, as the port must work on, because it is the vital gate for the country“, said minister Ludovic Orban.
Although the Ministry’s board refused to accept the rightness of the sindicalists main demand, they had to admit that the issue that was to be solved by the agency - the alarming illicit employment trend - is a very serious one.
During the strike, at Constantza the access gates were marked out and every employee’s legitimation was checked.
On his arrival in the port, the Minister realized there were even more other issues to be tackled: some operators use to subcontract certain services for which they do not have any licence.
To conclude, the effect of the stirrings in the port was the postponement of the parliamentary debates regarding the so much accused normative act - a sort of armistice, if one takes into account that the minister, syndicate and the operators keep on sustaining their divergent points of view.
