Ion Nan, president of Romtrans: A specific law for freight forwarders may limit their development flexibility

RBT editia nr. 10/August 2007 Articol adaugata la, 03 August 2007 ( RBT )

55 years old Romtrans is an emblematical company for Romania’s transport business, being bond to a lot of pioneer activities in freight forwarding, logistics and other related sectors.

RBT: What kind of support should Romanian authorities give to transporters in order to help them face the competition on the European market? Do you think that it is enough that the national laws are brought in line with European ones?

Ion Nan: We have to admit that the Government’s tax policy and especially the flat income tax was a positive measure in the context of encouraging economical development and discouraging fiscal evasion. By all means, additional fiscal facilities would have a great contribution to the Romanian companies’ development.

RBT: Is there a need for a dedicated set of regulations in the area of freight forwarding?

Ion Nan: Not necessarily. The freight forwarders being service providers, they work on the same principles as any other economic entity. A specific law would rather limit their movement and development flexibility.
