Jacques Barrot, the European Commissionaire for Transports We will support Romania on the Bystriy issue

The European Commissionaire for Transports, Jacques Barrot, visited Romania on early March, the European official’s schedule including debates with Minister Ludovic Orban and President Traian Basescu, and also a trip to Constantza port.

The Commissionaire came to Romania to discuss the reevaluation of the immediate projects on our country’s territory in order to review the TEN/T network axes (Trans-European Network Transport). Also the Commissionaire presented the initiative of changing the 38/2006 Directive, regarding taxing the transport operators, while the Romanian authorities reported on the stages of the projects financed by the structural funds.

Regarding the ship transport, Barrot expressed the European Commission’s stand, with a view to Bystriy canal: ”The Commission intends to support the Romanian government. I asked the Commissioner for Environment to write a letter to the Ukrainian government to remind their executive that there are serious environmental problems“.
