Logistics boom highlight unequal development

RBT editia nr. 15/Ianuarie 2008 Articol adaugata la, 11 Ianuarie 2008 ( RBT )

The logistical operators estimate that this year their incomes will be increasing, in accordance with the growth rhythm of the services market and with the decrease of the warehouse rents payment. On the other side, the accelerated development of the logistical services market will be restrained by the precarious state of the infrastructure and also by workforce shortage, a recent impediment.

Pierpaolo Sironi, managing director Kuehne+Nagel - an operator who disposes of 16.000 sqm of warehouses in Timisoara and of 10.000 sqm in Bucharest - states that the logistical services on the Romanian market met a 20% growth in 2007.  But the average hides some important regional discrepancies, as Pierre Kosc, manager at Calberson Romania said: ”In 2007, the logistics market has been booming, but unequally. And I am thinking about the great number of logistical services operators around Bucharest, while in the rest of the country there is not an important development rate, but only small steps owed to the pressure of the customers’ activities expanded from Bucharest to the province.“

With such a blamed infrastructure, the logistical services in Romania cannot reach competitive costs, even if there is the benefit of the cheaper workforce in Romania.
