MEPs call for liquids on planes legislation to be repealed

RBT editia nr. 12/Octombrie 2007 Articol adaugata la, 02 Octombrie 2007 ( RBT )
Afisari: 208

MEPs seem to be eager to repeal the regulations on liquids to be taken on planes, on the EU’s aerial routes, as too many costs are needed in order to prevent the passengers from taking liquids on board. The regulations were applied in Europe in November 2006 and in Romania in January 2007, when our country became an EU State Member.

In the resolution, MEPs express their concern that the costs engendered by the regulation may not be proportionate to the added value achieved by additional security provisions. Moreover, MEPs argue that it causes increased costs to airports and operators as well as to passengers resulting from the confiscation of private property. MEPs also recognize the “substantial inconvenience and disruption” caused to passengers, especially transit passengers.

Subsequently, the House calls upon the Commission to act, as provided for by Article 232 of the EC Treaty, by publishing and making available to citizens the verbatim text of the prohibitions and restrictions which can be applied to them, as well as the list of exceptions to the same and the reasons for the measure.
