The reason behind the letters is a whopping 1,7 billion Euros increase of the modernization costs in order to ensure the attainment of a 160 kph maximum speed, instead of ”up to 160 kph“, as targeted by already proposed studies and technical solutions.
“Romanian Railway Industry Association asks for an official position on this delicate issue in order to be able to work with our partners in CFR SA and Romanian Government, to improve the quality of Romanian railway system and to create a fare business environment for domestic and European railway undertakings and suppliers,” states the AIF in the letter to the European Commissioners.
On the other hand, CNCF CFR SA, the beneficiary of future work on the section Bra¿ov-Simeria-Curtici, argue that the existing documentation is going to be reviewed in order to answer an European request to allow passenger trains to attain 160 kph on about 95% of the Curtici- Simeria rail section, and about 85% of the Simeria-Bra¿ov rail section.
