Marco Polo II 2008 - projects competition go ahead

RBT editia nr. 17/Martie 2008 Articol adaugata la, 05 Martie 2008 ( RBT )

The European Commission launched on February the 5th the call for the projects liable to be financed in the Marco Polo II programme this year. The Marco Polo II programme is running from 2007 to 2013 on a 450 millions Euros budget. It aims at eliminating important road traffic volumes by shifting truckloads to lower emissions means of transport - railroad, maritime or river ships.

In 2008, the provisional budget allotted for Marco Polo II projects goes up to 59 millions Euros, the sum being thought as sufficient to financing at least 35 projects (compared to 15 projects in 2007). The deadline for the project’s deposition is April 7th, the selection completion is estimated for June, and the financing contract’s signing for September.

The program has already raised some Romanian applicants’ interest: Raillogistics, Cargo Express, ICA Romania, and Romanian Intermodal Association are amongst the last years’ grant winners. While these companies are mainly active in the rail business, this year will mark a premiere: an inland navigation project by Mainrom Line, the operator of a container line on the Danube, from Constantza to Giurgiu.
