According to a study conducted by Coface Romania on the sector of bankruptcies in our country in 2008, the transportation is among the most risky areas, together with construction and trade fields.

To carry out this assessment, the survey included companies that have started bankruptcy proceedings, companies in judicial reorganization and firms for which the insolvency proceedings were closed for lack of assets, regardless of the starting year of such proceedings.

The transportation sector is in the top five bankrupt sectors, together with the furniture industry, before the agriculture and food industry. According to Coface, the advance of the transport sector in the first position among bankruptcies is due to the global economic crisis, felt by the carriers mainly by the significant reduction in orders for transportation. Also, the carriers have coped with a continuous increase in operating costs, which resulted in an increasing number of bankruptcies in this sector in the second half of last year.

In 2008, there were 811 cases of bankruptcies in this sector, with 12.71% more than in 2007.
