While still on its way to the European Union accession process, Romania adopted a new tax for the air polluting emissions brought about by the mobile sources, known as ”the exhaust pipe tax“. And people complied with it, on every legal deadline.

Additionally, 2007 brought about the bad news of yet another environmental tax - the one applied on the first registration of a vehicle. From a legal point of view, the existence of two similar taxes applied to the same payer to protect against the pollutants effused in the same environmental component was incorrect, immoral and especially illegal. Subsequently, the ministries decided to eliminate one of them. The lower one, of course: the exhaust pipe tax.

A new single-article law, published last year eliminates the tax on the air pollutants emissions from the mobile sources (trucks, for instance). This month however the tax will have to be paid, luckily for the last time, because January is the deadline for the entire second half of last year.
