Constanta port and navigable canals authorities, together with bulk terminal operator Comvex accused steel processor ArcelorMittal of dealing a clearly unfair blow to Romanian business since it chose to run ore transports through Bulgarian port of Bourgas.

"ArcelorMittal Galati has no economic argument to set up a supply chain through Bourgas and on to Bystryi canal, setting aside the route through Constanta and the Danube - Black Sea canal," reads a joint press release issued by the authorities and port operator, which also states that the total cost of using Constanta reaches 5,77 Euros per ton, while transit costs for Bourgas range between 16,13 and 19,13 Euros per ton.

ArcelorMittal rejected all accusations, including the supposed violating of competition regulations, claiming that it obtained better business terms in Bulgaria than the ones offered by Comvex. However, the Romanian Competition Council opened an investigation and will question both parties involved in this dispute.
