Romanian road transporters last month organized protest rallyes all over the country, gathering over 2.000 trucks in lengthy queues. Although well organized, these actions failed to impress the authorities, so a new round of protests is set to come.

Transporters decided to organize a general strike in May, as the Ministry of Transports refused to sign a protocol for road tolls elimination. The protocol includes some 20 claims, among which the elimination of tolls for national roads, the elimination of all traffic restrictions for trucks, the cancelling of the car tax for Euro 4 and Euro 5 vehicles, a transparent collection of fuel excises and getting employers in the field of transports to monitor the use of these excises for road construction and maintenance.
