Romanian airports buy cheap liability policies

RBT editia nr. 14/Decembrie 2007 Articol adaugata la, 06 Decembrie 2007 ( RBT )

Increasing air traffic and the current use of cheap liability policies suggest that insurance companies active in the field are set to make some big money in the future. Bucharest's two airports - Otopeni and Băneasa, are paying for low insurance cover compared to Western Europe's big airports, says Filip Stavrositu, insurance manager at Astra-UNIQA.
Otopeni bought a 300 million Dollars policy and Băneasa a 200 million one, while airports in Paris cover their risks with policies worth 2 billion.
Market sources claim that airport liability policies will be adjusted upwards since Romania is now a part of the EU. Even more, although insurance companies are asking now 6 to 8% lower policy prices following a trend started last year, growing traffic will balance these discounts and eventually airports, airlines and air traffic management authorities will have to pay more than current figures.
