By the end of this month, the Chamber of Deputies, the lower chamber of the Romanian Parliament, will debate a change of statute for the National Company of the Maritime Ports Administration Constanta (CNAPM Constanta in Romanian). A regulations initiative promoted by Democrat Party deputy Laurentiu Mironescu aims to transform CNAPM Constanta in a Port Authority, in order to align the current administration system to the world’s biggest ports. Mironescu, former head of CNAPM Constanta during 1999-2001, says that creating a Port Authority will significantly improve Constanta’s day-to-day business, through a more efficient management. ”I’m not reinventing the wheel. This project was put forward in the past, but never applied because of indolence or lack of interest. A Port Authority will be able to better speculate some commercial aspects of the port’s business,“ says the deputy.
