The Railway Industry Association in Romania addressed another letter to the prime-minister and to Minister for Transports and Infrastructure, Radu Berceanu, in order to draw attention to the issues stemmed from the improper financing in the railways industry.

Headed “The government’s lack of vision in sustaining the transport infrastructure’s development”, the letter is a reply to the statements of the Minister of Transports and Infrastructure, regarding the Government Resolution to sack 10.301 employees from 14 companies in the railways field.

Although the Association agrees that the measure might be efficient, they denounce the negligence of the authorities in dealing with the other burning issues in the field. Moreover, AIF says that the road transport has been given priority from the Government’s policies, to the prejudice of the rail transport. Additionally, the railways stock was not maintained or modernized, causing great hindrances in its efficiency.

The main consequence of the above findings is the isolation of the national regions and cities that are supposed to be linked. For example, Giurgiu remains isolated from Bucharest, because of the collapsed bridge at Gr`di[tea. All the same, Bra[ov is isolated from Sibiu, on the same grounds. “The railway is not unattractive, but it was pushed in being considered so, on our country’s territory. As a counterproof, there are the great investments in the rail companies, made by the private investors, both at the European level, and on other continents.”

As a conclusion, the letter submits to the authorities’ attention the need for funds, which might allow the private companies and the state companies to maintain and create workplaces, to bring about the gross national product’s and the state income’s raise”.
