A new step towards a North-South transport corridor connecting the Baltic with the Black Sea was taken last month, during the second conference on ”The Future of Infrastructure in Central and Eastern Europe“, held in Bucharest. The purpose of this event was to help Central and Eastern Europe countries achieve a safe, efficient and sustainable transport infrastructure through expert input.

The North-South corridor was one of the projects presented last year, and Maciej Jankowski, State Secretary in the Minister of Infrastructure of Poland, renewed a proposal for Romanian authorities to join four other countries supporting this initiative. Named ”Via Carpatia“, the road corridor was initially supposed to start in Lithuania and pass through Poland, Slovakia and Hungary, but an extension through Romania and Bulgaria is also possible, if the last two countries agree. This would eliminate bottlenecks and bring together the communities and nations from the countries of Central Europe an integrated and internally coherent European Union.
