The 2007 Auto Liability Insurance will include the vehicle's Green Card

Auto Liability Insurance (in short, RCA in Romania) is meant to compensate prejudiced persons for both injuries and material damages following a road accident.

Until this year, this type of insurance was only used within Romanian borders, and those who traveled abroad with their cars were supposed to buy another insurance - the Green Card. Starting next year, the Green Card will be included in the RCA insurance policy, but some other changes will also come into effect: the insurance is no longer at a fixed value established by law, and the costs are sensible higher, especially for reckless drivers. According to discussions between regulating authorities and insurance companies, the Green Card will be handed together with the RCA insurance policy. It is yet unknown if the Green Card will be given automatically or by request. In the case of legal persons, there are no standard tariffs anymore, the insurance cost being calculated according to technical characteristics. Concurrently, car owners are subjected to a bonus/malus system: the reckless drivers need to pay more than disciplined ones.
