After a long transformation process, the first registration tax will reborn on July 1st under the new name of pollution tax, according to a regulation passed by the Government and published in the Official Journal on April 25th.

It is the third version of first registration tax, now a “very good and innovative” one as EU representatives call it. Its newness consists of the different, more complex accounting formula, which also takes into consideration the vehicles’ carbon dioxide emissions.

On the whole, the pollution tax is even higher than the first registration tax in the case of new vehicles, but it is as low as half of the former for the Euro 1 and Euro 2 vehicles powered by engines up to 2.000 cc.

It is worth knowing that at the beginning the tax will be null for the Euro 5 and Euro 6 vehicles and it will be set down subsequently.
