The company said that the streamline program, designed to cut costs and boost profits, would involve reducing the number of regional units to 11 from 14 and also moving the trucking, rail, and logistics activities from the division. The 500 container ships fleet will not be affected, and it might even grow in size next year.
Reading between the lines, analysts said that the company admits it is too bulky and cost-intensive. The problems occurred when Maersk merged with N&O Neddland and the resulting giant lost some of its ability to quickly answer customers’ needs.
