The constant GDP growth concomitantly leads to increasing the transports’ needs, and implicitly to a greater usage of the infrastructure and of the means of transports.

It is estimated that the economical development up to 2013 will lead to increasing the transport volume with up to 25-30%. On the other hand, this growth in the transport’s demand must be met in such way as to increase pollution and fuel consumption at a lower pace or even to reduce these negative factors on the life quality. To solve these diverging requests, one of the best solutions is the generalization of the multimodal transport.

Taking into account the stimulation solutions adopted by the European authorities, one might appreciate that the multimodal transport development will be growing, even if there is a reticence from the beneficiaries of the transport services. It is obvious that Romanian transport operators have to adapt to this trend. Otherwise, there is the risk of a deficit of efficiency compared to the competitors from the other Member States. And the risk might even bring about the expulsion from the market of those operators who are reluctant to the multimodal transport idea.
