The new head of Canals Administration wants private ports

RBT editia nr. 10/August 2007 Articol adaugata la, 03 August 2007 ( RBT )
Afisari: 179

Although canal traffic exceeded expectations during the first half of the year, current problems caused by low water levels on the Danube are impossible to overcome.

Ovidiu Cupsa, the new general director of the Canals Administration (ACN for short), says that a new Master Plan for the canals should provide solutions for the longer term. For the shorter term, Ovidiu Cup?a wants to encourage private operators to develop the infrastructure. In order to build private ports on the shores of the Danube - Black Sea canal, ACN will lease land for 42 years. Another project is aiming to attract pleasure boats by linking the Poarta Alb? - Midia N?vodari branch of the canal with the Siutghiol lake.
