The Ministry of Transports and Infrastructure decided that the Danube River Ports’ Administration (APDF, in Romanian) would be suppressed, following the bureaucratic system’s reduction of staff.

According to Minister Radu Berceanu, some of the river ports will be passed to the local councils’ administration, while others will be administrated by the Maritime Danube Ports Administration National Company (which should call itself the Maritime and River Danube Ports Administration National Company).

While the suppression of the Danube River Administration could reduce the burden of dealing with so many institutions, the same solving would cancel all the ongoing projects the APDF has won from the EU and would lead to losing all the money they administrate. Yet again, the local councils’ administration of the ports might result in multiplying the responsible authorities, which is rather inefficient.

Consequently, the issue of externalizing the Danube Ports’ Administration activity is a matter to be tackled after a serious analysis from the Ministry of Transports and Infrastructure and from the Ministry of Public Finance. ”The local councils have to be able to maintain the financing quota of some projects, to ensure that the private sector of the ports is paid, to take over all our employees and to ensure their jobs for at least 5 years,“ said Danut Ofiteru, general manager of APDF.
