The passengers’ number this year might fall from 5 million in 2008 to 4,46 million by the end of the year, according to the airport’s management. ”There isn’t a dramatic decrease,“ claimed Valentin Iordache, the airport’s general manager, who explained that early this year the traffic had fallen by 13-18%, while the net profit decreased by 13%. In recent months, however, traffic was close to the numbers achieved last year, with only a 9% decrease.
The airport’s administration believes that the decline in airport traffic is only temporary, so the investment programs, aimed at expanding capacity to 6 million passengers were not reviewed.
