The Ministry of Transports and Infrastructure has launched a new project inspired by the European transport, which implies that high tonnage vehicles should be loaded in special trains to be transported by rail.

The Ro-La transport system is not brand new in Romania, but CFR Marfa stopped operating such services in 2006. The route selected for a restarted service connects Bucharest and the border with Hungary, starting in the Progresu station in Bucharest, to the direction Craiova, Filiasi, Targu Jiu, Simeria, and the final destination - Glogovat, near Arad.

At least in theory, Ro-La services contribute to reducing fuel and permits for movement costs, but especially to reduce costs by avoiding the highway taxes. An advantage for the drivers is the time spent on the train, which can be considered for rest. Trains will be equipped with sleeping cabins and a restaurant car. Also, the lack of specific restrictions for the weekend or of the required stops optimizes transit time.
