According to the Medical Directorate of the Transport Ministry, there are 6 types of illness prevailing among transporters. First in top are the cardiac affections, second come digestive and locomotive system affections. There are also many cases of lung diseases, urological and neurological affections. Before year 2000, digestive affections prevailed, but heartfailures or other cardiac affections multiplied lately. During the last 3 years there was no sign of decrease in the number of transporters getting ill. "Generally speaking, it's all about stress, living conditions, food, neglecting hygiene and work safety rules. We might say that spinal disc herniation, lumbago and other back pains are specific to truck drivers," says dr. Victoria Iacob, high counsellor of the Medical Directorate of the Transportation Ministry.
