The Ro-La pilot transport from Bucharest to Arad at the end of July lasted less than 17 hours and is was made with a 21 Ro-La cars garniture. It is foreseen that a 15-20 tones/wagon transport might cost around 250 euros, which is far better than the current price from the Romanian Freight Railway Company, that of 500 euros, on the same conditions.
Although this transport meant a breakthrough for the Romanian combined transport, there is still a long way to go until one could speak about a combined transport network, due to the imperative requests implied: punctuality, good train's frequency, flexibility from the drivers' schedule, avoiding traffic restrictions. Yet, the road infrastructure is a must amongst the conditions for a successful Ro-La project implementation. We need safe and fairly maintained highways and parking for the trucks, as a combined transport solution won't make up for all the freight in Romania.
